What we know
The U.S. Geological Survey placed the quake about 191 km east-northeast of Nagqu city. Chinese state broadcaster CCTV called it the strongest earthquake in the region in five years. President Xi Jinping ordered an all-out rescue effort, and supplies including 1,000 prefabricated houses and more than 3,200 tents were heading to the area, according to The Hindu's live coverage.
