Street Fighter opens Friday: your weekend movie guide
By The Trends Incoming team · 2026-10-15
Hadoukens are about to leave the arcade again. Street Fighter opens in theaters Friday, October 16, 2026, from Paramount and Legendary, with Capcom in the mix. If you grew up mashing buttons, this is your weekend.
What it is
A live-action adaptation set in 1993. Estranged fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) get pulled back into the World Warrior Tournament by Chun-Li (Callina Liang). Director Kitao Sakurai is steering it. The official pitch promises fists, fate, fury, and yes, the classic roster energy.
The supporting cast is stacked for meme potential: Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, plus 50 Cent, Eric André, Andrew Schulz and more, per Paramount and Capcom materials.
Why it's trending
Opening weekend is tomorrow. Fight-game fans have waited a long time for a big-screen swing that isn't the 1994 camp classic. Cast drops kept the hashtag warm for months. Now the only question left is whether the movie sticks the landing.
Weekend game plan
- Thursday previews / Friday open: check your local listings for IMAX and premium formats.
- Bring the right crowd: half the fun is yelling character names in the lobby afterward.
- Keep expectations honest: it's a big studio fighter movie. Fun first. Lore debates second.
